Hi Jessica - Maybe we can help each other on the Charnley family.I have a passenger list for John Charnley age 38 shoemaker, Alice Charnley age 41, James Charnley age 20 shoemaker, Levina Charnley age 7, Evalina age 3, William an infant and another infant born on the ship coming over (which we believe to be Jane Webster Charnley, my husband's great grandmother) 30 Jul 1858 arriving in Port of New York on the Ship WEBSTER. Have an 1851 England Census for Alice Baldwin age 36 b Bolton, Lanchashire, England with children: James Charney Baldwin age 13 and Levina Baldwin age 4.Have 1841 England Census for John Charnley age 22 b Lancashire England.James Charnley, age 22, is in the Morristown, St Lawrence, NY 1860 census as a journeyman, but John and Alice are not with him and have been unable to locate them anywhere in that census year.1870 they are in Bayview Milwaukee Co WI John, Alice, Evalina, William & Jane W.1880 Royalton Waupaca WI - John, Alice Evlina and William. John Charnley died in Jan 1891 in Howard, Miner, SD and was buried at Manawa WI.No record of Alice's death or burial yet...James (son) married Maria Paronto in NY and then settled in WI, Levina m Colburn in SD, Evalina m Canfield and then Williamson in SD.William drowned 19 Oct 1884 and buried at Manawau Cem WI.Jane Webster "Jennie" Charnley m August G Schultz in SD and this is my husband's line.Like you mentioned the family was Charnley when they came to the US.John's obit states 3 children were born to him and Alice: Mrs Eva Williamson, Mrs Jennie Shultz and son William, who drowned in WI....indicating that James and Levina were not his....???I have some family for the James and Maria but do not have a death date so as to locate an obit.Be happy to hear from you and hopefully be able to enlighten both of our lines....jean (branaugh) sneesby
