Re: Charles Henri Charpie 1796 - 1883
Thise is the informatin I have on Charles Henri Charpie:
Charles Henry Charpie was reared in a small Protestant village about three miles from Bevilard, Switzerland. There he learned the carpenters trade and on February 22, 1825 (being 27 years of age) he set sail for America and also landed in New York city and brought with him his chest of carpenter tools.
While Charles Henry Charpie and Marianne Blanchard had a passing acquaintance in Switzerland, it was not until after a few months residene in New York City that they were married.
They migrated to Ohio about the end of 1825 and purchased a beautiful five acre piece of land near Mt. Union University, upon which was a log house. He also purchased an eighty acare piece of land near North Georgetown. The two were five miles apart.
They spoke four languages, Patois, the native Swiss language, French, German and English.Marianne possessed three Bibles, French, German and English. which she would take turns reading.
This is from The Weaver Family History written by Merrell Weaver that I have in my possession.Merrell Weaver was their grandson. They are my ggg grandparents.
Hope we can share more.
