Hi Edith,
I believe William Chastain to be the brother of Barnett Chastain who is my great great great great Grandfather through my grandmother Grace Pearl Chastain. Unless your Grandfather William is a Junior or Gandson as there is a bad habit in this family of naming and renaming the same name. Grandmas father was Goerge sonto Wesly Barnett Jr. and Mary Goodpasture. Both of Washington Co. Indiana. Barnett Sr. Was married to Mary Wilson who also lived in the same vicinity. they came out of Oklahoma and Missouri.
I traced the family to Missippi, South Carolina, Goerga and Texas. But we started in Virginia after leaving France. I think its interesting that there is another Gomez in this family. I'm very curious as to if your related in any way to three of my daughters and my inlaws. They have a very rich history that goes back to when Spain fought Turkey. They are Ottomi Indians. Part of the Family is from Mexico City and part from Puerte Vallarte and Cabo San Lucas. They had three name Changes. Before Gomez they were Vazquez and before Vazquez they were Monfrasen. On The Rodriquez side the name was Santa Maria which the catholic church changed. The name Gomez was a cousins name and was taken in an effort to escape execution by the Mexican Government as a grandfather who was a doctor rode with Zapata thus the name Gomez. By coincidence I have an Aunt from Tiajuana who is a Gomez. She traced her family and says the name goes back to Egypt. Write me back okay.Cousin Carmen
