I am seeking information on a big puzzle in my tree.We have the names Octavia/Olivia CHEARS/CHEERS and Rachel CHEARS/CHEERS.
Theory No. 1: Octavia/Olivia, b. about 1720 and d. aft. 1795, was married to William Bennett, b. bet. 1717-1720, d. aft. July 1795 in Rockingham, Richmond Co, NC.They had the following 6 chilren: William, Nevil, James, Rachel, Jane and Margaret. Son William, b. abt. 1750, d. 1815 in Marlboro, SC, md. (1) Nancy Huckston, and had two children, William and Elizabeth; (2) Rachel CHEARS/CHEERS (b. 1755, d. 1814), and they had the following 6 children: Nancy, Nevil, Joseph, James, Benjamin and Susanna.Margaret "Peggy" Bennett, daughter of father William is said to have married George LINDSEY.These two people are my 4th great-grandparents.
Theory No. 2: The father and son Williams have been confused and their information listed separately when, in fact, they are the same person. In other words, father William married first, Nancy Huckston and after she died (probably in childbirth), married Rachel CHEARS/CHEERS.While it was once believed that Rachel and Octavia/Olivia were perhaps cousins or some other relative, there currently strong speculation that Rachel and Octavia/Olivia are also the same person.
Does anyone have any information, clues, hints, rumors, etc. about this people and their relationship?I am specifically trying to prove that my 4th great-grandmother, Margaret "Peggy" Bennett Lindsey was the daughter of the father William.Any assistance will be appreciated.Thank you.
