MARY BELLE CHEMBERLIN, daughter of THOMAS and ELIZABETH CHEMBERLIN, was born May 2lst, l856, in High Point Township, and died at Oakdale, Iowa, December 8, l92l, aged 66 years, 6 months and 20 days. She was the first babe baptized in this organized Presbyterian Church and by the first Minister, J.P. Brengle. She joined the church in young womanhood in l872.She was married to G.W. HOADLEY, December 22nd, l875, and this union was blessed with three children, ROY C. HOADLEY, of Garden Grove, Iowa; ADALINE H. WOOD, and ANNA H. MCCOMAS, both of Helena, Montana. There are also nine grandhcildren, to whom she was unselfishly devoted and who will sadly miss her dear presence.
Most of her life was spent in this community with the exception of a few years' residence in Chariton. She was an ardent, earnest church worker as long as her strength permitted and her splendid Christian example is a most precious heritage to her loved ones. The world is a better, brighter place for her living. She did truly lead a kindly light and made sunshine in many shady places.God has in His infinite wisdom called her home into the haven of well earned rest.
Besides the husband, children and grandchildren, she leaves two sisters, MRS. ANNA WOODBURY, of this city, and MRS. HATTIE SMITH, of Los Angeles, California, and two brothers, MR. D. CHEMBERLIN, also of Los Angeles, W.F. CHEMBERLIN, of San Diego, a number of other relatives and a host of friends mourn her passing and feel deeply the sorrow of her going.Such a life as hers, of intersts in home, church and community, has surely left its impress and a far widening influence on all who came in contact with her.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church in Garden Grove, Sunday afternoon, Dec. llth, conducted by Rev. Jones, the Pastor, assisted by Rev. Provan, of the Leroy Presbyterian Church, and Rev. Andrew, of the Garden Grove M.E. Church.Interment being in the Garden Grove Cemetery.
