Hi David,These events might be too recent for anybody to be able to find via online sources, but there sure should be records in Manitoba which you would be able to access, I suppose it depends on how are you may be from MB. But even if you are a long way, you may be able to work something via the telephone with the authorities in Winnipeg. Most helpful documents to look for are:
1: Birth certificate for Douglas Chisholm will help a lot if you knew his date and year of birth.
2:Death Certificate for the parents of Douglas Chisholm
3: Adoption Certificate for Douglas Chisholm
With this information you will be well on your way to finding the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, and your Chisholm family of origin. There seem to still be a goodly number of Chisholm families in Manitoba. And a double tragedy car accident in 1929 might not have been a commonplace event, a report could have found its way into a local newspaper.
The primary documentation will give you the best answers, but you are also a very good candidate to join the Chisholm DNA project. Such a test might link you to a wider ancestral Chisholm family oforigin, perhaps helping to identify either just who your immigrant ancestor was, or even better, finding the ancestral link back to Scotland.
