Sorry, that's my mum Shirley with the sisters, Pam and Jean - they would be your cousins. Pam died about 6 years ago at age 70, she was living in Devon (Lynmouth). Jean lives in Nailsea outside Bristol, I think she is 70 now, and my mum and dad live in Bristol, my mum is turning 68. They had an older brother Graham, who died of Leukemia at age 19. They all grew up in an area of Bristol called the Novers, close to Knowle and Bedminster. My aunt remembers Bill, Alfred, William and Florence, they all lived in Knowle or Bedminster.
I remember my grandfather as Jack too, he died in 1980 when I was 15. He had told me he ran away to join the Merchant navy when he was about 12, and afterwards he worked on the docks at Bristol, which I think his father did too, and so did my dad when I was growing up. His marriage to my grand-mother, Florence Trump was the second marriage for both of them. His first wife died in childbirth, along with the child. I can't believe the suffering our ancestors had to endure. We live in privileged times now.
I've managed to trace the Youngs back a little now (perhaps it's your tree), to Scotland, from about 1830 to the 1700's. The other branches fade out in the 1800's, but I've only searched using free resources so far. I moved to Toronto, Canada when I was 21, and have a three year old boy, and I thought it would be nice for him to know what his roots are. My brother lives in Weston and has four children. I guess there must be some Youngs still going as Alfred, I know, had a son.
Are you still in Devon?
Marie
