Colonel Charles Chiswell was a very wealthy man.He was from Scotland, built Scotchtown- where Patrick Henry later lived. It still stands, owned by Hanover County. He had a home in Williamsburg, where he died suddenly and unexpectedly. He owned mines, large tracts of land and entertained the cream of society in his day- including William Byrd- who had dated his wife, Esther. After Charles' death, Esther went to live with her daughter and son in law, the Barret's.Supposedly, Esther was a cousin to Lyonel, James and Stephen Loyd and I would be interested in what you know about her. These Loyds were very wealthy and very connected to the Colonial Government in those days.
Thanks.
