Josiah Allen Christie - Suicide - 1840
In the State of Georgia in the County of Upson:
An inquisition indented, taken at the house of Josiah A. Christie died in the said County of Upson the 18th day of May One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty, before John Fuller Coroner of and in said County Upson upon the view of the body of Josiah A. Christie then and there lying dead, upon the oaths of William Robertson, Dixon Harp, Ezra Johnson, John T. Moreland, George P. Swift, Alfred Harp, Coleson Moreland, Simeon Smith, Peter Lilly, Robert Mayhair, Anthony Gilman, and Ridley Allen, good and lawful men of the County aforesaid, who being sworn and charged to enquire on the part of the State aforesaid when, where, and how, and after what manner the said Josiah A. Christie came to his death do say upon their oath, that not having the fear of God before his eyes, but being seduced and moved by the instigation of the devil, at Upson aforesaid, in a certain garden at Upson aforesaid the said Josiah A. Christie being then and there alone with a certain pistol of the value of Ten Dollars which he then and there held in his hand, and which said pistol being loaded, he did then and there fire and discharge the same so as to shoot himself feloniously and voluntarily and of malice aforethought, in the head; and say the jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid, say that the said Josiah A. Christie then and there in manner and form aforesaid, as a felon of himself, feloniously voluntarily and of his malice aforethought himself killed and murdered; against the peace and dignity of the State.
In witness whereof as will the aforesaid Coroner, as the Jurors aforesaid have to this inquisition have put their seals on the day and year aforesaid, and at the place aforesaid.
