Hi,
I am researching my Mitchell ancestors from North Gwillimbury, Ontario.A friend sent me this information:
Record # 14847 re: Lot 17 Concession 6, North Gwillimbury
reads Sale made by ALTHA MITCHEL daughter of BETHUEL HUNTLEY and wife of ELISHA MITCHEL to ISAAC BENNETT for 200 pounds- two hundred acres.witnessed by AQUILLA BENNETT, reocrded on november 18, 1837.
some of this information comes from the 1851 census:
ALTHEA MITCHELL of Vermont, widow of ELISHA MITCHELL, daughter of BETHUEL HUNTLEY
Age 54 in 1851, living with AVIS BENNETT age 38, ALTHA age 3, and "infant"
So your Bethuel Huntley married to Eunice Church, was the father of my ALTHA MITCHEL.
According to more information sent by fellow researches but not yet verified by me:
ELISHA MITCHELL married abt. 1795 to SARAH SMITH (b. abt. 1774 New York) The children of Elisha & Sarah:
DARIUS MITCHELL b. abt. 1795 USA (per census)
ALTHA MITCHELL b. abt. 1798 Vermont
DORCAS MITCHELL b. 1803 Upper Canada
DIADEMIA MITCHELL b. 1809 Upper Canada
NELSON MITCHELL b. 1813 Ontario, Canada
I haven't put it together yet except to see that there is a family connection here.I am desperately seeking answers to mymysterious Mitchell's who apparently came from the USA, possibly Vermont to North Gwillimbury.Of course all the surnames are connected to my lines: BENNETT AQUILLA, was my 4-gr grandfather, AVIS BENNETT's maiden name is MITCHELL, she married AQUILLA BENNETT JR., ALTHEA HUNTLEY MITCHELL is living with AVIS BENNETT (Avis was a widow) and notice Avis names her child "Altha"
Then there is in the 1851 census:
THOMAS HUNTLEY b. Canada age 31
Wife MARY from England, age 28
children:
SARAH age 6
MARY age 4
JOHN age 1
Also living with them is MARY A. BENNETT age 13.who is probably of my Bennett line but haven't placed her yet.
Hoping if we put our info together we can get some more answers.
Warmly,
Lisa
