The Cissna family is not part of the Cessna family. Revolutionary War records show Stephen Cissna(Cisna) buried in Chillicothe, Ohio, was born in 1755. In 1755 Stephen Sisney was babtizied. His parents were Thomas and Mary Sisney. In 1763, Stephen Sisney, son of Thomas Sisney was in the Carlisle,PA, Orphans Court. The affidavits filed with Stephen Cissna's application for a pension(which was awarded 3 years before his death) establish that Stephen Cissna was born Stephen Sisney. He never learned to write his name as evidenced from the affidavits to which he placed his witnessed mark in 1819/1820. He married a Barnhill, and deed records show John Sisney as adjoining land owner to Barnhills in 1749. Much confusion has arisen because of the book "The House of Cessna." Cissna and Sisney are different familites from Cessna. Old newspaper "Mail notices" show Stephen Cissna and many of his childre received mail addressed to Stephen Sisney. There are many documented references to many of his children as Sisney, even though the derivatives of Cissna and Cisna became permanent in Ohio.
