These are interesting, especially the ones with the names, Harriet, in them.One of David Clair's daughters was named Harriet.This is what I know about the family:
David C. Clair married Alice H. Yorks about 1871, in either Steuben/Alleghany Co., NY, or Osceola Co., MI.(The Yorks family had already migrated to MI, so that seems more likely).David & Alice Yorks Clair had 5 children in Osceola Co., MI:
Hariett, 3 Jan 1872;
John, 6 Mar 1874;
Ernest, abt 1876;
Rettie (Loretta?), 12 July 1878;
Alice May, 5 Jan. 1881.
The mother, Alice H. (Yorks) Clair, died 11 Jan. 1881 (right after Alice May's birth).David Clair, apparently took the children and went back to the Alleghany/Steuben area of NY.I have verified that Harriet married Herbert D. Bardeen.There is a Loretta Clair that married Charles F. Perry, but I don't know if this is "Rettie".John & Ernest are still listed in the 1915 & 1925 NY State census, but I have lost them after that.(David Clair's 2nd wife, Olive Call is also on the census between 1892 & 1915).
There are two possible Alice May Clairs:
There is an Alice Clair who married Herbert Davis.
And in Hartsville Hill Cemetery, there is a grave for ALICE M. CLAIR, and it says "adopted".But, there are no dates.
These are the descendants of my ggrandfather's sister.The Yorks family (3 of 5 children living) migrated to Osceola Co., MI from Steuben Co., NY in the spring of 1869, and the parents, Thomas & Mary Ann (Carman)Yorks, outlived all of their children, and a couple of grandchildren, by several years.I would really like to find out what happened to this branch of the family, since there were so few descendants of Thomas & Mary Ann Yorks.
