Ruth,
I traveled to Dover York Co. PA and researched the cemetery there at Strayer Church.I photographed Joseph's wife tombstone and have a copy of their involment in that early church.George States that he was drafted in York Co several times during the revolutionary war.He states that he moved on to Fayette Co and then on to Muskingum Co in Ohio to be with his son's who also moved their as original settles.I'm a direct decendant. My mother did most of the early search for her application into DAR.I have many photos including a 1860's drawing photo of George Clapper born 1781.
This is the first time that I ran across your post.I am researching to see if the Huntingdon Co. Clappers are related.Because they are just west of Lancaster Co. and because of the time and name it sure looks like they should be related.Everyone is holding on to thier on version of migration and entry into this country.I should note that we have proof of Joseph's entry in 1750 on the Ship Sandwich. And his purchase of land in Dover in 1754.
I went to Metterzimmern Germany this fall and was overwhelmed by it's beauty. We have been in Southern Germany many, many times and never knew about our Clapper connection to this town. There are Klopfer family members still living their today.Cannot wait to return to research the local church records.
