Terry, This one also has me confused. The only son of the original CLAPSADDLE families I can't account foron the 1860 Census is George, the son of Dennis (Augustinus or Denus or Denis)and Margaret CLAPSADDLE.This Dennis - son of George and Anna (DYGERT) CLAPSADDLE -is the one who lived to be very old in Niagara Co., NY.
Here are my thoughts on this person named "Dennis", married to Sarah, found in Lockport, NIagara, NY in the 1860 Census. Dennis' son George is mentioned on the 1850 Census as being born about 1821 in Niagara Co., NY. The only other son ever mentioned as being a son of this Dennis and Margaret is Robert.Did they have any other sons?Don't know.I never saw any other Dennis on the 1850 but the one mentioned above. George, b. abt. 1821, according to the 1850 Census, could possibly be this "Dennis" found in Lockport in 1860.This Dennis is about 40; that is close to what George's age would be. Being as his father is Dennis, maybe his name was Dennis George CLAPSADDLE, but until he was married, he used the name George. Less confusion in the household. This George is the only son that was on the 1850 Census that I can't find on the 1860 Census. Some of the other CLAPSADDLE males and families have moved onto Michigan, but I accounted for them.
There is a George married to a Sarah on the 1860 Census. They have children: Myrtie, Burt, Elmer, and Lee. I believe this is George, the son of William (b. 1796) and Mary CLAPSADDLE.He is not with his mother in 1860. On the 1880 Census, his sister Eliza was living with him.She had previously lived with her widowed mother, then the mother died before the 1880 Census. So this all makes sense.
Here is another mystery. Who is Myron CLAPSADDLE/CLAPSATTLE who shows up in Lockport, Niagara, NY on the 1870 Census as being abt. 27?The transcription of the name of Dennis' child from the 1860 Census says Myra - female. Could they have made a mistake and it really was Myron.I have seen Myron where it says female next to the name. The year of birth is similar. I am not able to look at the census images to check this out for sure.If you are able, or know someone who could do this, that would be great.I am going to post a query for Myron and Dennis.
I also had a question about whether the Margaret CLAPSADDLE that is in the 1860and 1870 in Hartland was the wife of Dennis, the one who lived into his 90's.If not, she is about the same age as his wife would have been.Who was she, if not his wife? They could have been divorced, I suppose. That would explain the different residences. But I am not positive about who she is.
Maybe we can help solve these questions if people out there have some answers for us.
Now you are totally confused, right?
