This could be interesting. Thirty miles is not too far. All the Clares in this area (Woolstanton, Biddulph, Burslem) are colliers in the 19th century, but that might be something to do with not being able to be in the cotton trade any more. There are Clares here back to 1660, but the records are sketchy to say the least. There might well be connections
