Painter/Clark from Va. to OH to Ill. 1820-1844
To ANYONE, Please help me connect to the right Painter families. My family, John Painter ,b.in Va.abt 1890: m. Eleanor "Nelly" Clark abt 1816-17 in Va.
John and Eleanor's children are:
David b.1818 in Va; m. Emily Garrett in Oh.1840
Jefferson b. 1819 in Va; m. Sarah Garrett in Oh.1842
Elizabeth b. 1821 in Va. had a McHenry child abt 1840?
John,Jr. b. 1823 in Oh. m Sarah E. Whiteside 1850 Ill.
Samuel b.in Va. 1824 in Oh. m Elizabeth Rains in Ill.1850
Susan b. in Oh 1826 m. Rial Quigley 1862 in Ill.
Julia b. Oh. 1827 no m.
Rebecca b. 1828 in Oh. no m.
George W. b. Oh. 1829 m. Mary Philips 1855 in Ill.
Frances June b. in Oh.1833 no m.
Nancy b. in Oh. 1834 d. same yr. in Oh.
Mary A. b. 1836 in Oh. m. James Nash 1859 in Ill.
It appears that John and Eleanor had 3 children in Va. migrated to Ross County, Ohio abt. 1822. The rest of their children were born there. They left Ohio for Greene County, Illinois abt 1843 where they remained and many descendants are still there.
Can anyone tell me about John Painter and Eleanor Clark's family in Va. and their connection to these families in Ross County, Ohio. I saw another Painter (Samuel) marriage to Clark (Rebecca) in Ross Co. Oh. in Dec. 1822? These must be family? When I look at the given names of John, Sr.'s children (imagination?) it seems like the boys are named after the Painters' and the girls could be named after the Clarks'! There might be a family connection also to a Jacob Painter m. Ibby Bishop 1827, Sally Painter m to Elisha Taylor in 1835 and Susan Painter m to Sterlin Thaxton in 1823. All early settlers in Greene Co. Ill. I don't know if they are siblings to my John Painter that m. Eleanor Clark. Can anyone fill me in on their origins and family in Virginia? You may post here or contact me directly at: [email protected] Thank you in advance--I have recieved a lot of help in these genforums!
My regards, Carol
