William Clark(e) of Ledyard or Gales Ferry CT
Does anyone have information of William Clark(e) who lived in Gales Ferry, CT (Ledyard)?
His home was the site of the marriage of Julia Ann Clark(e) and Edwin S. Robinson in 1836.
He is believed to be Julia Ann's uncle.
Family tradition has the Clark(e) family as mariners, but some think William may have been a minister.
Records show that Rev. Ralph Hurlbutt preformed the marriage of Julia Ann and Edwin.
There are a few possibilities of who William was, but none clear.
Julia Ann was thought to be an only child; Her father may have been lost at sea when she was still a child. William may have raised her. She was born 16 Dec. 1817;attended Wilbraham (Wesleyan) Academy in Wilbraham, MA and listed her place of residence as NY. Census record show she was born in CT. Those could be clues about William and his family.
Any help is appreciated.
