The article states some volunteer Genealogist found a three great great grandchildren on his paternal side. Now need "someone from his mother's side"...to " make the statistics a little better."

Now I find a in the 1900 Nebraska Thurston County Pender Twsp Federal census:
Marvin Clarke b. Oct 1855 age 44 married 15 yrs b.IA, father NY, mother NY was City Marshall.
Wife Mary A b. June 1858 age 41 had 9 children /7 living.b WI/parent Wales. 4 children are in the household all b. Nebraska. So he was married about. 1885.

1900 Nebraska Thurston County Pender Twsp is Nichlas and Miranda Fritz with a "servant" Julia M Clough age 890 b. NY and grandaughter Nellie Clarke age 14. Could Julia Clough really be Maranda/Mirand's mother? aunt? and not a servant? Seems to me Julia is a little old to be a servant.

In 1910 census Nebraska Thurston County Pender Township is Nicholas Fritz age 64 married once for 14 years b. Germany and his wife Maranda Fritz age 67 b. married 3 times last for 14 yrs had 3 children/3 living at time of census. Also in household is an adopted daughter Bertha age 17. b. NB

In 1880 census of Iowa, Mills County, Saint Mary Twspis a step-son Marvin Clark b. IA Parents NY age 22 in the household of a Nickolus Fritz age 33 (1847)b. Prussia and his wife(Marvin's mother) Mary A Fritz age 44 (1831)b. NY

In 1870 census Iowa Mills County Saint Marys Twsp is a Marvin Clarke age 12 (1858) b. Iowa in the household of a William Fiedler age 53 (1817) b. Prussia and Maranda Fiedler age 39 (1831) NY (Marvin's mother)

Iowa Marriages on Ancestry has a William Feidler married a Maranda Clark on Nov. 10, 1862 in Pottawamie County. So Marvin had a step father by age 4 or 7. I see no Fiedler children born to William and Maranda. Then looks like he had another step-father surname Fritz.

Now this fits except for first name, but M could be for Marvin.
1860 census Iowa Mills County Plattville Twsp:
Aaron Clarke age 55 (1805) b. NY occ: Musician
Maranda Clarke age 28 (1832) b. NY
Byron M. age 3 (1857) b. Iowa
Ann E. Grove age 11 b. NY
G.W. Grove age 7 b. NY

So for me it looks like to me the A of Marvin's middle initial could have been for Aaron, his father, to remember him as he died when Marvin was so young. But he may havebeen born Byron Marvin Clarke. His mother seems to bemarried 4 times first to a man named Grove and had 2 children, Ann E and GW ( m: abt 1850 to abt 1854) then Aaron Clarke and had Marvin (m: abt 1855 to 1861) then William Fiedler, (m: Nov 1862 to abt 1895), no children and then Nicholus Fritz abt 1896 to death? in Pender Thurston County NB?) with an adopted daughter, Bertha.

So if this is all correct then would it be helpful, Maternal DNA wise, to find the descendants of the Grove half siblings to Marvin? Did the earlier genealogists find mother's maiden name to look for those descendants? Has the mother's death certificate been found? She died after 1910...Nebraska had death registration starting in 1904.
