My name is Clarkson, but I have found that my surname of origin is Claxon. In searching all records in the UK, they all seem to come from one common ancestor in Basildon, Maldon, or Clacton on Sea, which was known prior to the 1900's, as the Village of Clacks Sons.
This is also spelled out in a book I received today, "The Claxon Name In History" On page 68, it shows Basildon in Essex as an origin, and my earliest paper shows a birth at Basildon Hall, a Saxon castle. ( 1789)
Most US Claxons are in Kentucky, and many originate in the very same area. Unlikely as it may be, this may be a surname indicating a family that are closely related, unlike Clarkson.
As the Search on this site takes a Claxon search to this place, I am posting this message here. I am looking to start a DNA project at FtDNA also. I am U-152*A1, which has been tentatively called La Tene Briton ( 500 BC), which may change to a Romano Briton origin.
Looking for Claxons :-)
