Re: Clarksons of the UK
I'm updating a message that I sent ........oh, ages ago!!
My original quest concerned Jonas Clarkson and Ann Walker in Yorkshire in 1717.
Since then I've discovered - thanks to a helper in Salt Lake City, checking the original records that my particular line of Clarkson's came from Malton by Norton, and Sherburn, both in Yorkshire.
Louise has very carefully made a study of the info given on the IGI, where it says that Henry Clarkson b 1762 was born in Sislden (Kildwick) and leads to all the other stuff about Joseph and Mary Forten. Well!!!..........apparently, there were TWO Henry Clarkson's and their birth dates were very close together - One of them was born in Silsden and the other was born in Norton by Malton, but it doesn't end there.........
There are actually TWO Sherburn's........one near Scarborough and one in Elmet!!
MY Henry married in Sherburn but came from Malton, his parents were Matthew Clarkson and Lucy Freear.....
Henry's wife Mary Linskin wasn't the one mentioned on the IGI either........
Previous family genealogy had Mary, daughter of Steven Linskill as Henry Clarkson's wife.A careful search of the Sherburn records indicates that this was wrong and THIS Mary is Henry's wife.
born 17 Feb 1766, Sherburn, parents, John Linskin and Elizabeth Dooker.
I hope I haven't confused you all too much now........or have evidence that points elsewhere!!!
If there is anyone out there that's researching MY Henry Clarkson.....or Mary Linskin.. it would be great to hear from you.
Sorry that this post is so long, but I just had to share the info with you all!
