Hi,My name is Kevin Bell. This is my first time on this site.I apologize in advance, 'cause I can get a little verbose.I live in Salt Lake City.I was born and raised in Ohio.I have long believed that I had Native American blood, but knew nothing of it's origins. When my father and I talked with my grandmother back in the early 1970s she told my dad that his father was part Cherokee. We never knew it.(Now I admit it is true that many are told such things. But I wanted to know for sure so I began a long, and many times interrupted, investigation that continues to this day.My dad's cousin said that he had heard that my great-great gradfather's 2nd or 3rd wife was Seminole (too far North for Seminole I thought, but anything is possible, right?).When I later had my mother question my grandmother just before she died, at the age of 94, she told my mother that the name Buckhorn sounded familiar to her.Well, I keep track of all details, so I worote that down. After doing more research I discovered that my great-great-gradnfather was named Joseph Bell and that he had married a woman named Elisabeth J. Clatterbuck (also known as Jane E. Clatterbuck). As far as I can tell this was his first and only wife. But this is prabably where the "Buck" name came from in my grandmother's memory.I went through and read these postings.I heard talk about "brown skin", "Indian names" in Culpeper families, Blackfeet Indians (though I'm thinking too far East for Blackfoot, but who knows?)I also saw a Clatterbuck with the first name "Powhatan", and discovered a "Sidney Clatterbuck" who claimed to be Cherokee through a Martha Ross (who I assumed was some relative to Chief John Ross.)So what's up my cousins? My 2nd Great grandmother (Elizabeth J. Clatterbuck) was born in Culpeper, which later became Rappahannock, County.I don't know her parents. She was born about 1824.My Native American ancestors have been calling to me for some time.Is she the connection? Can someone help me out here? Are some of the Clatterbucks Native American? The Indian names in the book one of you wrote about sounds like a huge clue.
