Re: Edward, b. ca. 1553, Cliburn, Westm., Eng.; son of Edmund?
As an alternative THEORY to the one above, I am exploring the possibility that Edward was born somewhat earlier, perhaps about 1553, and that he might have been the youngest son of Edmund and Eleanor (Layton) Cliburn (and thus the younger brother of Richard and Thomas). While he is not included in the pedigrees published by O'Hart (referenced in my earlier messages posted on this Claiborne forum), I believe it is possible that O'Hart was working with incomplete data (some 300 years after the people here involved had lived). The 1553 time frame is before the period for which extant parish records have survived, and so there is no church record of Edward's baptism that I can find. This Edward was buried in the parish of Cliburn on January 12, 1618/19 (according to parish records). IF he was indeed born about 1553, he would have been about 65 or 66 at death, which is reasonable for the longevity of that time and place.
If anyone has any information about this Edward, please share either by posting here or contacting me directly at [email protected]
