Hi Kylie

I am doing some research into my great grandfather's family. His name when he died was Arthur Horace Knight (Kawhia) and when he died there was no record of his birth. As it transpired he was actually born Arthur Horace Clinch, his parents were Elizabeth Woolnough and George Clinch and apparently he was born in New Plymouth. He must have been unoffically adopted out to the Knight family and taken that surname. It was a surprise to his children to learn of his true surname.I am unsure whether he was actually born in New Plymouth, or on a boat coming over to New Zealand and then his birth registered in New Plymouth.

If you have any information on both George Clinch and Elizabeth it would be much appreciated.I am unsure whether they actually married, although it appears they both died in Huntly, and it seems Elizabeth was buried there.

My great grandfather Arthur Knight (Clinch - their son) had twelve children and married Lavinia Caroline Harris, whose ancestors had the name Zinzan.Their second eldest son George Knight was my grandfather. All of the sons of Lavinia and Arthur have now died, but all the daughters are still alive, although in their 80's now.Needless to say because there were 12 children there are many descendants, although with the surname 'Knight'.

If you need any more information, I am slowly putting it together.I would be interested to find out whether you are a relation and where you fit in.

Kind regards

Leigh Knight
