Children of Hannah Taylor Clinch, 1739, Surry Co VA
There was no son named Christopher in the Will or estate of Christopher Clinch (13 Dec 1736, 20 Apr 1737, Surry Co VA; 20 Jul 1737 Surry Co), or in the Will or estate of Hannah (Taylor) Clinch (10 Apr 1739, 16 Jan 1739 Surry Co VA; 22 Jan 1739, 21 May 1740, Surry Co). There was a Christopher Moore Clinch in the Will of Edward Clinch (3 Nov 1778, Jul Ct 1779, Nash Co NC)
The Will of Margaret (Mrs Taylor) Harris (7 Jun 1721, 20 Sep 1721, Surry Co VA) named “daughter Hannah, wife of Christopher Clinch . . . granddaughters Elizabeth Judkins, Elizabeth Clinch, and Margaret Taylor,” the Will of Christopher Clinch (13 Dec 1736, 20 Apr 1737, Surry Co VA) devised five pounds “unto my Daughter Elizabeth Holt,” but there was no Elizabeth in the Will of Hannah Clinch (10 Apr 1739, 16 Jan 1739 Surry Co VA), although John Holt and Thomas Holt witnessed the Will. Elizabeth Clinch was definitely a daughter of Hannah Taylor and Christopher Clinch, and she married a Holt, but was she not in her mother’s Will because she died before her mother wrote her Will (10 Apr 1739)? ----- There was a son William Clinch in the Will of Christopher Clinch but no William in the Will of Hannah Clinch. The Will of Christopher Clinch said (of his wife’s land) “if my Wife marrys again then I give unto my Son William the half of this Tract of Land . . . to be enjoyed by him in the manner before given immediately from the time of her so marrying again” ----- Daughter Mary’s surname was not given the Will of Hannah Clinch, but daughter Margaret was identified as Margaret Clinch; Mary may have been married when Hannah Clinch wrote her Will. ----- The children of Christopher Clinch and Hannah Taylor (mentioned in two of three Wills) were James Clinch, Joseph John Clinch, Elizabeth Clinch Holt (born before 7 Jun 1721, married before 13 Dec 1736), Mary Clinch and Margaret Clinch (apparently unmarried on 10 Apr 1739). It appears William Clinch may not have been the son of Hannah Taylor Clinch.
