COAKLEY DNA Project initiated

By Grady Bonner March 19, 2005 at 06:54:31

Hi Folks,

I have a started the COLCLOUGH / COAKLEY / other spelling variants Surname DNA Project.

I intend to gather enough samples to identify how many separate families with these names there are. This project should identify the DNA "type" of the Staffordshire, Cork, Wexford, Stafford, and King George lines, among others. This should finally answer some questions about whether the King George COAKLEY line derives from the Cork or Staffordshire lines (for example); if the Stafford line descends from Wexford or Staffordshire (another example) and should help any participant find his own tree.

The technique works by analysing the Y-chromosome, and therefore it is only possible for men (because women have no Y-chromosome). So, if you are a male with the surname COLCLOUGH, or COAKLEY, or COKELEY, or similar, then please participate. If you are not, yet have some interest in COLCLOUGH genealogy, then please help us recruit males with these surnames. The best thing you can do for the project is to get your own line represented. Find a COAKLEY male and get him to participate :)

There is more information here, at the project webpage:

I am happy to try to anwer any questions anyone might have.

Best,

Gregg Bonner
