Hello Sherry:I do not know what Dixon or Dickerson Cobb's father's given name happened to be for certain. I am not a Cobb family historian. I did look at the record given for him at Find A Grave. There was no photograph of the tombstone. Then, we should think that whomever inventoried that cemetery for Find A Grave where Semer Cobb was buried did not make a mistake.I have never previously encountered the given name of "Semer."
Information about the Cobb family issue in my message to which you responded was taken from the Bible of Miss Lillian L. Cave, formerly of 948 Cedar Avenue, Long Beach, California. She mentioned this information in a letter to Cass Knight Shelby, a well known and highly respected family historian with and impeccable record of documentation for his Shelby family history work which was substantial. The letter of Miss Cave was dated by postmark January 25, 1930. This history was reported to me by Helen Fredell in an electronic mail message. Of course there was room for error in this record as well. Perhaps the question of the given name of this Cobb, whether Semer or Seymour (not Semour as probably misspelled in your message) will remain a small but open question until more credible documentation becomes available. Indeed, you may be exactly correct that Cobb's given name was "Semer." Thank you for the response.
