James Cobley,b.abt.1795 Bristol area.
My G.G.Grandfather was James Cobley, carpenter. He married Patience Wade in the Bristol parish of Temple on 23 June 1819.
He had 5 children :- James b. Temple 6. 11.1825(d. Temple 28 .10. 1832?)
Grace b.Temple 28.2.1823,
Williambapt. Bedminster 6.11.1825 (d. Temple 7.9.1827?)
Mary Annbapt. Temple 8.2.1829
Elizabeth b. Temple 11.5.1832d.1907 Chippenham, Wilts.
Elizabeth Cobley was my Great Grandmother.
In the Census of 1841 for Bristol, Patience and Elizabeth are shown as living at St. Philip's Marsh, in the Parish of St. Philip and Jacob Without. They are members of the household of William and Grace Pavey, Grace being Elizabeth's eldest sister.
(William Pavey is a waterman). No other members of the Cobley family are mentioned, so I am wondering if James has died, or perhaps fallen foul of the law and been transported. He has not surfaced so far in searches.
In the 1851 census Elizabeth is still with the Pavey family, working as a cotton winder, but there is no mention of Patience.
In 1854 Elizabeth married George Harris, who came from Queen Charlton, Somerset. He worked for the G.W.R.. They lived in the Temple area until about 1867/68 and then moved to Chippenham, Wiltshire, where they remained, bringing up their 5 children.
If anyone comes across a mention of the deaths of both James and Patience in their researches, I would be very pleased to hear from them.
