Sarah Coblin 1806 Virginia
The Sarah Coblin mentioned in this inquiry was one of three children of William Coblin, an Englishman who came to America in 1772. According to family tradition, he was married to a French woman named Sally. The family tradition states that his son, William, married Susan Corley and moved to Kentucky in 1810. I believe all Kentucky Coblins are descended from this couple. His two daughters were identified in the tradition as Susan and Sally. One is said to have married a Graves and moved to Ohio. The other married a man named Haley and moved to Harrison Co. Kentucky. Since Sally is a common diminutive or by-form of Sarah, I think the Sally of our tradition and the Sarah of the Virginia marriage records were the same. "Graves" is either a mistake or a mistranscription of Groves. According to the Virginia marriage records, the other sister was named Nancy Coblin and married a man named Daniel Healy. She appears again in the 1840 census as living in Harrison Co. Kentucky under the name Nancy Haley. I can supply further information on the history of the family if anyone sees this message and is interested.
