Three months after Belle Starr's death, Eddie Reed, along with Ed Lear, were arrested for stealing a horse. Eddie Reed was the 19 yr. son of Belle (Shirley) Starr and James Reed and was the brother of Pearl Starr. Eddie was sent to prison by Judge Parker but was released after only a few months and was appointed a Deputy U. S. Marshal by Judge Parker in 1893. Two years later Eddie Reed married Jennie Cochran, daughter of Aleck Cochran and a school teacher in Waggoner, Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). About a year later Alec was poisoned by bad whiskey in Joe Gibbs and J. W. Clark's saloon in the Claremore community. Thinking he wouldn't live, they left Aleck to die in a garbage dump. However Alec lived long enough to tell his son-in-law, Eddie Reed. On Dec. 14, 1896 Eddie entered their saloon, guns drawn intending to close the saloon and arrest Gibbs and Clark for causing the death of his father-in-law. Eddie ran the owners out of their saloon, however Gibbs and Clark returned, and killed Eddie Reed with two shotgun blasts. Eddie was buried in the Cochran family cemetery 6 miles from Claremore near Catoosa. Source: STARR TRACKS pp 76, 77 The final years. ---- Judge Parker resigned his position as judge in Ft. Smith, Ark. about the same time. My interest is J. W. Clark. Does anyone know if he was John Wesley "Wes" Clark who ranged in east Oklahoma and N. W. Arkansas? And what happened to him? My John Wesley "Wes" Clark ranged in these areas. He married in Johnson Co, AR, Samantha Jane Martin, daughter of William "Bill" Martin and wife Nancy Katherine Cole of Newton Co, AR. Wes had another marriage and family but I don't know who they were. Please post here if you have any information.
