Peleg R. Coffin married 7 March 1844 to Roxanne Wright, by M.A. Sackett. The record has his last name as Cochrane! Two sources for this info, Pickaway County OH Marriage Records, Book 4, 1839-1855 and Ohio Marriage Index, 1789-1850 CD. Both sources have the same info. You will NOT find Peleg on any 1840's Pickaway County census records, he's not listed anywhere! I and others have looked and looked for him! We know he was there, but....??
As for New York, Truman Wright (Roxanne's father) is found on the 1810 Ontario County census, city of Geneseo along with a Justus Wright, (Page 205.) There are no other Wright families listed, nor any Coffins. Truman Wright is again listed on the 1820 Ontario County NY census,(page 199,) he, the ONLY one!
On the 1830 Steuben County census, city of Troupsburgh,( page 482 & 483,)Truman Wright is listed along with a Adonijah Wright, Justus Wright, Solomon Wright, and there are two Coffins, Nathan and Nathaniel. All of the Wrights and Nathan Coffin live within 6 houses of each other. The 1840 Livingston Co. census, city of Mount Morris, shows a Peleg Coffin,(page 178), BUT, we don't believe this is our Peleg, maybe his father?? Who knows---yet! Towns in Livingston, which was created out of Ontario and Genesee counties, include Conesus, Geneseo, Groveland, Springwater, Sparta and Livonia.
We know that Peleg and Roxy were in Piatt County by 1850. Oh and another interesting thought that came from another Peleg Coffin researcher. She brought up Peleg's middle initial of "R". Peleg named one of his daughter's Emma "Rilles" and she in turn named one of her daughters, Corlie "Rilles." Could this name of Rilles have been Peleg's middle name and possibly a family surname? Something to think about!
