I am looking for direct female descendants of Rachel Shoemaker, who married John Coffman in Virginia, and moved to Ohio about 1819.Their daughters include the following:
Sarah (c1802) m. Absalom Byerly;
Hannah (c1803) m. Frederick Chrisman Fox and John Roberts;
Margaret (c1804);(died in Virginia c1817)
Elizabeth (c1806) m. William Norris.They appear to have had daughters Julia Ann, Sarah J., Susanna, and Anna.
Deborah (c1808) m. Henry Hiser;
I am hoping that one or several of the descendants of these daughters may have done mtdna testing.
I believe that my 4th great grandmother is Rachel Shoemaker Coffman’s daughter Rachel Coffman, who married George Norris in Montgomery County, Ohio on 29 October 1826. Her sister Elizabeth married George’s brother William in 1825.What appears to be a sibling of George and William (Harriet) married a John Snyder in 1824.
Rachel Coffman Norris eventually married Andrew Archibald Bray, the widowed father of her daughter in law, Emmeline Bray Norris (wife of John C Norris).Rachel moved to Madison County, Indiana, after this marriage.
Daughters of Rachel Coffman Norris Bray that I have found so far are as follows:
Mary (c1833) m. James G Fulton and had daughter Nora Fulton (c1870);
Elizabeth Ann (c1840) m. John Brooks and had daughters Fannie, Anna, Ellen, Mary E., and Dolly. Dolly Brooks married William Fleming and had a daughter Mary Fleming.
Because there appears to be no will or guardianship papers for George Norris, after his apparent death about 1839 in Montgomery County, I am hoping to verify my connection to this family line through mtdna testing.My last known female ancestor is Harriett Norris Cottrell, who I believe is Rachel’s eldest child.
My maternal haplogroup (full sequence mtDNA) is H3 -T152C1. Most people don't do the full sequence mtdna, so any female descendants of Rachel Coffman, her sisters, or her mother Rachel Shoemaker should all, at least, be in the H3 mtdna haplogroup, if I have finally found the correct family line.
Thank you very much for any help/direction you might give.
