The James who died about 1818 in probably Campbell Co Ten was the father of John, Patrick, Archibald, Abigail, and Ellender. His wife was Mary. I am guessing she died sometime in the 1820's and soon after the children who remained in Campbell Co moved to Greene Co.
As you check the census records you will find John, Ellender, and Abigail all state they were born in SC and one of Patrick's sons states his father was born in SC. This is consistent with the few records I have. James apparently moved to SCfollowing the war and remained until about 1800. I have found some records for a John Cogburn in Mecklenburg who was married there between 1800 and 1810 and left (or died). I have wondered if this could be our John but haven't had time to pursue it. (There is an Azariah Cogburn/Cockburn in Mecklenburg so John could be one of his sons).
After 1830 they headed to various places. In Cocke Co there is Archibald and Ann. I can't tell if they are really the same person simply listed twice or husband and wife listed each way or different people. Regardless there is a large number of Cogburn's between the two of them all of whom are unaccounted for as Cocke is one of those infamous burned counties. Also have been trying for years to find the children of Ellender Cogburn after 1850 without success.
I have a lot of records for Henry until he moved to SC, then almost nothing. He was alive in 1834 as he hired an attorney to represent him in some pension payment.
