i don;t have a record which suggests john;s first wife was margaret. i don;t know where that came from but have seen it several times each time without a source.
the tax records for the 1830's has a sally cogburn who is taxed for land in the same area as john and with the same dimensions as john. before john had 152 acres but when sally was listed he had 0 acres and she had 152 acres. after sally drops off list john has 152 acres again. i concluded sally was his wife (not necessarily the case as i know patrick (john's brother) and his son john were trying to hide land from creditors with a land swap scheme which ultimately failed).
john named her as executrix on 1 dec 1851. she was listed for a few years as owner of land and land was sold in 1855. she was no longer listed. by 1860 all the children were living with other families. all of john;s first family except george lauderdale, husband of elizabeth cogburn, had moved away by 1858. i found each of the children in different households in 1860. first guess is Malinda died. Greene county has excellent records and i didn't look for these in particular when i was there.
if the story about nathan is true then he could have been raised by henry which would explain the second story that nathan visited mont co ark to visit henry. nathan would not have known the others as they had moved before 1850. why didn;t henry take nathan with him when he moved in 1858? i don;t know.
i'll have to search my files but i know i found cynthia recently.
