Looking for info On John and sons before they came to USa

I have a family cook that has the Family tree starting with John Cogdell and running through the early 70's It was cpmplied byWilma Cogdell out of Menpish TN . I am trying to find information now on JohnCogdell and the family before they came over to the USa .
