John,I'm just now getting into my Cogdell family research, 5 years after your posting. But you are right about the people you mentioned. The name Coggeshall was mistaken-suppose to be Cogdell and I am a descendant of that family. My line is:
ggggg-grandparents: George Cogdell-Margaret Bell married 1722 Carteret Co, NC
Their Daughter: gggg-grandparents Abigail Cogdell who married John Bridges
Their son: ggg-grandparents Tyre Ciden Bridges who married Rachel Mairs in 1807 Williamson Co, TN.My ancestor comes from Rachel, but Tyre remarried in 1839 Perry Co, IL to Manerva Arnold. He had about 17-19 children altogether.
Tyre and Rachel's daughter: gg-grandparents Mary Kelly Bridges married George Terry, Perry Co, IL 1839.
Mary Kelly and George's son: great-grandparents William Terry married Mary Ward 1870 Perry Co, IL.
Wiliam Terry and Mary Ward's son: paternal grandparents Hansel Terry married Carrie Dillinger/Dilliner 1907 Perry Co, IL.
Hansel and Carrie's son: my parents Lewis Terry-married Marjorie Agnes Coughlin (Calvert-her first marriage) 1953.
Carrie Terry Maupin-me.
John Bridges and Abigal Codgell (my gggg grparents) had a son named John Bridges-I don't know any middle name or initial for him.He was born 1773 in Wayne Co, NC and married Elizabeth Jane Tiner, born 1777 Wayne Co.Another son, Nathaniel Bridges, born 1765 in Wayne Co, NC married (1) Rita Jones 1786 in Wayne Co, NC and (2) Sarah Fox on December 27, 1836 in Wilkes Co, GA according to the information I have.I'm wondering if the name Frius you mention for Jonathan's middle name could have actually been Fox after Sarah as they often used the mother's maiden name for a middle name, especially for sons.Possibly, then, Jonathan could have been Jonathan Fox Bridges, Nathaniel and Sarah's son?
As for the name Bridgers, that is true.John was originally called Bridger, but some reason changed to add the s it seems after marrying Abigail.Father-John was born 1745 Wayne Co, probably actually then known as Dobbs County, NC.He was the son of Samuel Bridger and Mary Cobb.Samuel Bridger, b. 1721 in Wayne/Dobbs Co, son of Benjamin Bridger and Sarah Worrell.Samuel married Mary Cobb in 1744 in Goldsboro, Wayne Co/Dobbs.Mary Cobb was the daughter of Stephen Cobb and Patience Bridger.Benjamin Bridger b 1696 in Bertie Co, NC son of William Bridger and Elizabeth Allen. He married Sarah Worrell in 1720.Sarah Worrell, b. 1799 Isle of Wright Co, VA, daughter of Richard Worrell and Dorcas Runnalds.William Bridger, b. 1658 Isle of Wright/Wight Co VA, son of Joseph Bridger and Hester Pitt.Married Elizabeth Allen 1682 Isle of Wight Co, VA.Joseph Bridger, born between 1625-1630 in Dursley, England, died April 15, 1686 Isle of Wight, VA.Joseph was son of Samuel Bridger and Mary ? Married Hester Pitt 1644 Isle of Wight.Hester Pitt, b. 1629 Isle of Wight, daughter of Robert Pitt and Martha Lear.Samuel Bridger, b 1584 Slimbridge, Gloucestershire, England, died July 31 1650 Slimbridge. He was the son of Lawrence Bridger and Mary ?Married Mary ? 1622 Slimbridge.Lawrence Bridger, b. 1558 Slimbridge Gloucestershire, England, died June 1631.Robert Pitt, father of Hester Pitt, b. 1604 Bristol, Dorset England, died 1673 Isle of Wright Co, VA, son of William Pitt and Mary Gibbs.Married Martha Lear 1624 Isle of Wright VA.Martha lear b. 1606 Bristol England, died 1672 Isle of Wright Va.She was the daughter of Thomas Lear and Elizabeth Bridges.Thomas Lear, b. 1575 Bristol Dorset England, died 1608.Married Elizabeth Bridges 1595 in Bristol.Elizabeth, b. 1578 Bristol, died 1622 in Bristol.
That's about as far back as my info goes for now.I wish I could take credit for all of that, but I can't.That came from someone else's obviously very extensive research.Right now, I would be happy just to find the graves of George and Margaret or any of their descendants. My gg Grandparents, George and Mary Kelly Bridges are buried somewhere in DuQuoin IL probably in Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, otherwise known as Paradise, along with several of their children, my great grandfather, William one of them. There are several other unreadable stones, which any could be my George and Mary or they could have followed some of their extended family to MO, but highly doubtful.George and Mary supposedly died in March and April 1875 in Perry Co, IL.George and Mary Kelly Bridges both were born in TN, George likely in Wilson Co, Mary in Williamson Co, not far from each other.I think my Terry clan originated either VA or NC and came to TN and on to IL through KY from there arriving in IL sometime around 1830.
Due to the fact that it has been over 4 years since you first posted this message, I'm sure you probably already have the above information, but in case you didn't, I thought you might be interested. If you have found your family line since, I would be most interested in what you found. Please email me at: [email protected]
