Re: Robert Croan, Guilford Co., NC, 1780
I noticed your posting about Robert "Croan" in Guilford.I'm looking for a Robert Carson in Guilford 1777-1782 or thereabouts.Circumstantial findings indicate that this Robert Carson is my ancestor. He had land on or near the Beleus/Haw rivers 1778-1779 yet there is no record of him selling the land.He shows up in Washington TN 1780s.
I'd like to see the original handwriting of that surname "Croan" in Guilford...the genealogy library only had what appears to be a transcribed version.Have you seen the original version of the Sarah Choron on the Thomas Stewart estate in 1794?
Several Carson girls married in Guilford 1770s (some at Buffalo Church), and at least 2 of them seem to be Robert's daughters, and another a possible niece.
BTW, the Alexander "Coharson" in Orange NC will 1775 is believed by some to actually be Alexander Carson, spelled incorrectly. The original will is spelled "Coharson", and what is believed to be my Robert Carson was in Orange c1764-1766 prior to Guilford.
