Both Hiram and Solomon stated in 1880 that their fathers were born in VA, their mothers in SC. The same appears for Solomon in 1900. This fits with the 1850 census's place of birth for Isham and Emily. And along with a birthdate between those of Hiram and Lucinda, this is evidence that they were brothers.
Isham (Isam) COLE and Emily were both born ca 1795/96, he in VA, she in SC. When Isham was in his late 20s, the Coles were in Tennessee, married, and the parents of Hiram W (ca 1822). In 1825 Solomon R was born. Around 1830, Lucinda. Other COLEs in the White Co area may have been kin. For example, Solomon born ca 1800 in VA. Stephen Cole, born ca 1801 in VA, resided in the county but not in the immediate area. William R Cole, born ca 1822, must have been kin to Isham Cole's family; I suspect that he was Stephen’s son. Census records for 1830 and 1840 seem to indicate that Isham had only two boys and a girl.
In 1840, Isham was in DeKalb Co, which was formed partly from western White Co a few years earlier. The census lists him under“Manufacture & Trade” which would be correct for a carpenter. In 1850, Solomon resided in De Kalb Co with his wife and first two children who were probably born there. Hiram was married in DeKalb in Feb 1850 but was on the census in White Co several months later. Isham and Emily resided with his household, listed as Cassville PO area. By 1860, both Solomon and Hiram resided in Putnam Co, northeast of White Co. Isham (64), now a widower, listed as a carpenter, and Lucinda (30) remained in White Co. (William R Cole, also a carpenter, lived near them.)
Solomon R b Aug 1825 m: ca 1848 Sarah A Allison b Oct 1822. Solomon remained in Putnam Co at least until the 1900 census was taken; he was 77 at the time. Looking at naming, Solomon was the father of Isham Fb: ca 1860 and grandfather of an Isham Fb: Jan 1878.
