Tracing Roots Coll in Ireland - link to Colby
I am researching COLBY family roots worldwide via a new web site and also for personal research as my wife Mary isCOLBY. As part of that research I trace the roots to Ireland from where her great grandfather came from. In the mid 1800's
Tracing ancestors in Ireland has not been easy since as you will know formal records where not kept until mid 1800s.... but the web site at http://ifhf.brsgenealogy.com/http://ifhf.brsgenealogy.com/has revealed some Coll roots.

I am currently working on the theory that COLBY may be derivation of COLL but have no evidence to prove or disprove this.
COLBYs in general terms it is believed came from Denmark and inhabited the East Coast of England (Lincolnshire, Suffolk and Norfolk) it was from there many went to America and most Americans today believe they come from that area.
My own research has created a link to Ireland and I know some COLBY men went to AMERICA from Ireland in the 1800s - I am trying to get better facts.
A forum specific to Irish links is at http://www.colby-connections.com/discuss/index.php?a=forum&f=4http://www.colby-connections.com/discuss/index.php?a=forum&f=4
I would welcome your observations.
