I am helping a friend research the COLP family. We believe she descends from JOSIAH COLP, son of Milton.Josiah moved to Texas before 1867.In 1867 he married a Louise Rheuddsill (sp?)in Lamar County, TX.However, in the 1870 census his wife's name is Laura (??).They have one son at the time, De E.(De Edward we believe). In 1880 they are still in Lamar Co. But the transcriber of the census make an error in the interpretation of the name OR the enumerator just wrote it wrong or illegibly. The HOH is shown as I.K. and wife Lo. E. Colp. They now have 3 children, D.E. and two daughters, Etse and Gurta.
D.E. married Mary Etta Tims in Tarrant Co., TX about 1887 and had two known children: William Herman and Virginia. D.E. and Mary Etta divorced by 1898 when he marries Ada ???.D.E. (with several name variations is found in the 1910,1920, 1930 census in San Antonio, Bexar Co., TX.
In 1910 Laura, widow of Josiah, is in Bastrop Co., TX. living alone at age 66.
The name D.E. as a husband of Mary Etta was obtained from grandson Jack Colp, son of Wm Herman. Jack born 1922 is living in Texas at the present time.
Will send you what addl info we have on descendants of D.E. Colp if you are interested.
