Daniel Colvin, Edgefield Dist., S.C. 1815, 1821

In 1815, Cornelius Cox sold 200 acres in Edgefield Dist. to Daniel Colvin and George Rister.My primary research subject is George Rister.Can anyone tell me how these two men were connected?Or, what happened to the land?
This is first & only info I have found linking these surnames.It seems unusual for unrelated men to buy property together.Could Daniel Colvin have been a brother-in-law of George Rister?
An additional Colvin record found:In 1821, Nancy Jones & Daniel Colvin petitioned--"asking relief from damages to their lands and property done by Georgia Commissioneres, in attempting to improve the navigation of Savanah River in Edgefield District."In 1822 there was a report from Committee of Claims, but I do not know response.
