I have just solved a snag in my Compton line using familysearch.com and it has led me to Mary Bowne and this forum.I am especially interested in the reference to the slander case, as I am very likely descended from both Nicholas Stillwell, my line from him staying in New Jersey up to my mom, and WIlliam Compton, on my father's side.In one other source, I found Nicholas selling land to William and I about fell off my chair! My line (probably) goes Wm 1; Wm 2 L.I; Jacob, NJ; Wm. NJ; Joseph (4th child) NJ; Elias (b;1789) NJ; William (b:1818) Ohio; Granville (b.1847) Iowa; Willis Elmer (b.1873) Iowa; Maurice Elmer (b.1912) SD; Catherine MI (me, Violagal). My snag is still proving that Wm (b.1818) in Ohio is the son of Elias. The LDS ancestor file does not include Wm. as theirs, but Joseph and Ellen live very nearby once they move to Iowa, and they are listed as children of Elias. Since today is the first time I've seen any LDS entry for Wm. with Elias as parent, I am very excited that this is the real thing. This only happened today, because someone showed me how to use the web site.I have tried the microfish and the CD at a library and gotten nowhere. This was a very good day!Nice to know there are some other cousins out there. Are you folks trying to track all the descendants from your lines?I am still just trying to work them all backwards.
