Dear Bill, I read with interest your message on Genealogy.com, they did not put many Lemuel Compton's on this earth, however, it appears that you have one and I also have one, furthermore, I feel that the name Lemuel came from a 'maiden' name, therefore, there is a great possibility that there is a connection.
My Lemuel Compton was born in Langport, Somerset, England in 1801 he moved to St. Pancras, London, England and married Harriet Clark at the Old Church St. Pancras in 1830. Lemuel died in St. Pancras in 1866.
I am not suggesting that your Lemuel and mine are one and the same, however, there is a possibility that they descended from the same Grandparents, and that the Grandmother's maiden name was 'Lemuel'.
My Lemuel Compton was the son of John Compton and Jane Rodford.John was born in 1770 and died in 1851.Jane was born in 1778 and died in 1819 - they both died in Langport, Somerset, England.
I have noticed that there are a lot of 'Lemuels' as a surname in South Wales which is in close proximity to Somerset, however, I have been unable to make a connection.
The chain from my 'Lemuel' to myself is quite comprehensive, however, I would certainly like to discuss this possible connection with you.
