There are two other people I have heard from who are looking to verify the link between William, Elizabeth and Mary Compton and their probable parents Elias Compton and Sarah Long.We have all noticed this coincidence of Mary's husband's first nameGranville and the first name of my ggrandfather, Granville Compton, who was Willian's only son with issue.
William was born in Butler county OH in 1818, where Elias lived at that time. There are many coincidences in the migrations of Elias and William and another son of Elias' named Joseph. All three move from Butler Co. OH to Montgomery Co. IN to the area near Madison Co. IA.None of the other Compton families in Butler Co. OH also wind up in that part of Iowa.
Those of us who require documented proof of parentage, are still waiting to find it.I keep hoping some descendant will produce Elias' family Bible, or that of another close relative, with the names of the children who do not appear in a later census with Elias and Sarah.
In the U.S. Census for IN in 1830, Elias lists 2 sons between 10-15, who could be William at 12 and Joseph at 10, and 1 girl 0-5 and another girl 5-10.
W.H. Lees has said we do have "a preponderance of evidence"thatElias and Sarah are William and Elizabeth's parents. You are the first to ask about Mary as well.Happy ancestor hunting.
