Information from Runyon's MARRIAGE BONDS OF PIKE COUNTY, KENTUCKY 1822 - 1865
03/31/1851 William F. Cumpton and Polly Sword were married by George Powell JPPC. Letter of consent for daughter Polly was by John Sword; attested by "cena An" Sword and Jeremiah Perry; Bond by William F. Cumpton and John May.
The importance of Sena Compton Sword, as a witness to John Sword's letter of consent, is mitigated by her relationship to the Swords as well as being a Compton. When you consider that Lee Compton acted as her guardian when she married James Sword and that William F. Cumpton arrived in Pike Co., Ky about the same year, I feel it is more than a tenuous tie between Sena Ann and William F.
The 1860 Pike Co., Ky Census has Sena listed in James Sword's Household with children John 11, Rebecca 5, and Wm. 4.
Sena Ann Compton Sword did marry William Casteel in 1865. Sources, on the internet, have James Sword's death year as 1866. I have not found his death record.
For the parents of Lee Compton and William F. Compton, I have discarded the TazewellCo., Va connection which is prevalent on the internet sites. I feel that Hannibal A. Compton (b ca 1890) had to know of his Grandfather Benjamin W. Compton's siblings in Pike Co., Ky and should have known his G-Grandfather Compton's name. John Compton and Polly Walls were not the parents of Lee and William F.
A James Compton 64 and wife Polly 56, both born in Va., are in the 1850 Pike Co., Ky Census. I have them as very long odds against as parents of Lee and William F. WIlliam F. is likely the Wm. Compton in Spurlock Damron's Household same census of 1850. In their favor is they very likely were from Russell Co., Va.
