Thank you, Brett.Unfortunately, I do not have a descendant of this William Compton to offer up.
I am researching the various Compton lines (1) trying to connect this Kentucky and Arkansas pioneer William Compton to his proper ancestry, and (2) hoping his ancestral family history will make some connection to our William Robinson BACKWARDS from the 1806-1821 time period when they travel and share life experiences together.
Our William Robinson's future wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Horn(e), born in Maryland per the 1850 census, was traveling with this William Compton family when they and our William Robinson joined up together in early 1806, somewhere "along Kentucke River" per an 1816 Arkansas deposition, and headed off toward the Mississippi River.
The first Robinson baby was born in March of 1807 and given a fine Dutch sounding name, Finnetta. We presume the name honored Elizabeth's Mother.Another baby arrived in December of 1809.
They all cross the Mississippi and set down roots sometime in 1810 along the Fourche River in extreme northeast Arkansas at what was once called Fourche du Thomas. The William Compton and William Robinson families are close until William Compton dies in late 1821 and the growing Robinson family begins their journey to become future Texans.
Whether his death and their departure are more than coincidental, I do not know. The widow, Sarah Compton, did NOT travel any further with the Robinsons. Lawrence County, Arkansas Territory records reflect the presence of one John Compton. . .hopefully a son of the widow Sarah.Apparently there was no Will, and the court proceedings did NOT identify the children beyond a notation that there were four (4) heirs.
The specific relationship between Elizabeth "Betsy" Horn(e) and the William Compton family is unknown. . .we are also searching for what must be a COMPTON-HORN connection. There is no indication that 20 year old "Betsy" is a servant of the Comptons.
So many family histories are corrupted with inaccurate information that it is taking the fun out of genealogy these days. . .especially if you must rely on online searching.
