Hi Shyrrel, What a lovely name!! I'm so sorry, I see I have missed yours and another post as well. I do appreciate your response.
I'm having such trouble finding a connection, and in these past months I can see why - with so many variant spellings.
I knew there was a change in spelling because apparently the family had a real falling out when my husband's ancestral uncle decided to walk away from the Catholic Church. They no longer wanted any possible connection with my Conachan so they changed the spelling of it. I thought Conahan, especially since there are many more Conahans in the States. But I'm beginning to think most of the Conachan -Connachan - Conaghan -Connaughan- Connaghain -Conachen are probably related. Since everywhere I search - most of them seem to come from the area of Donegal then on to Scotland then on to USA/Canada/Australia/New Zealand.
Has your name been spelled Conachan at some point at well? I had heard they moved on to Edinburgh Scotland - is that near Glasgow?
This "parochial register" you mentioned - is that showing his school or Cathlic church registry? How could I go about searching for something like that.
Thank you again for your help. Helen Conachan from Beaverton, Oregon (where in Canada do you live)
