This is indeed Daniel Keith Conatser my Great-great-grandfather.He married Ann Marcum in Marion County, Tennessee about 1843.They had four children, John Elliott (later known as Joseph) in 1844, Jane, Mary, and Florella (born in 1849).He and Ann divorced probably around 1849 and Daniel left with a large group from Marion County headed to California (gold rush).Someone in the party got sick and they wintered in Pike County, Arkansas and never went on to California.Daniel married a Mary L. (?) and is found in the 1850 census of Pike County (Thompson Township, household 210)dated November 19, 1850.He is listed as age 26 with wife Mary, age 19, son John age 6, and daughter Esther E. age 2 months. In 1860 he is in Missouri Township of Pike County, Arkansas. He is listed as 37, wife Mary L. is listed as age 30, John Elliott is 16, Esther E. is 10, J.J. (James Jerry - my great-grandfather) is 8, J.L. (female) is 3, and F.A. (male) is 5 months.(We have been unable to find any information on these last two children. It is possible they died before reaching adulthood.)We have not been able to find a record of Mary's death, a grave, or record of a divorce between the two.Neither have we been able to find any record of his marriage to a Grace Nance or Sarah Garner. Some family sources say he married an ancestor of Franklin Roosevelt's first Vice President, John Nance Garner. Some say her name was Grace Nance, others say her name was Sarah Garner. We have found no Nance family in Pike County but there was a Garner family.Unfortunately, that is not proof one way or the other who this third wife was, if indeed there was another wife.We have not been able to find Daniel in an 1870 census. Some family sources say he was in Northwest Arkansas, possibly Washington, Benton, or Newton County. He does wind up in Franklin County, Arkansas in 1871 to marry Elizabeth Wilhelm. He died about 1879 and there is no record of children born to this union. He was living on Altus Mountain in Franklin County at the time of his death. He is supposed to be burried in a small cemetery on private land on top of Altus Mountain. We have had individuals tell us that there is/was a large marker for him but we have not found his grave yet.
