Everton J. Conger and family
I am in the process of researching a biography I plan to write on the life of Everton Judson Conger, who is 1865 was part of the group that captured John Wilkes Booth. Everton is a descendent of Uzziah and Mary Conger. His parents were Enoch and Esther (West) Conger. What I am trying to find are letters, diaries, journals of any type that were either kept by Everton or members of his family. I have in my possession a few letters written by Everton and to Everton from his wife, Emma Kate (Boren) Conger. I know that some of the family letters were found in their home in Montana but that few have survived. Are there any descendents of Enoch and Esther that may have family letters, etc., in their possession. Everton had several brothers and sisters. They are Flavia Alsina Conger; Omar Dwight Conger (former Senator from Michigan); Weltha Theresa Conger; Williston Kingsburg Conger; Seymour Beach Conger (served with Everton in Third West Virginia Cavalry and was killed in 1864); Mary Ester Conger; Mary Frances Conger and Chauncey Stewart Conger (served in Illinois legislature, Everton read the law in his office in the 1870s).
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Best wishes
