My GGGGGG Grandfather was a Thomas Conn.Supposedly, he was born about 1772 in County Down, Northern Ireland to a William Conn.Thomas, with his father and at least one other brother, by the name of Samuel, emigrated to America somewhere around 1798.
I am a descendant through Thomas' son, James, who was born, either on the trip over, or after they landed in America. In a couple census documents, it's recorded that James was born in Deleware.
Thomas, James and maybe a couple other family first settle near the small town of Florence, Washington County, Pennsylvania. At the time, the town was on the western frontier and wasn't much more than an outpost, known at the time as Mount Pleasant or "The Crossroads."
Of the Conn's that settled there, however, there's no listing of a William or Samuel Conn.At first I thought maybe William was elderly and stayed with James before dying, or maybe that he even died on his way over to America. But then, I considered that maybe he and Samuel possibly stayed out east somewhere.
Since James was said to have been born in Deleware, I've looked around Deleware in the early 1800's and I've found a good handful of Conn's around New Castle, Deleware, including some Williams. However, I couldn't find enough information to be certain if they were my Conn's.
So, I turned my attention away from what happened to them in America, and toward where they came from in Ireland.I haven't exhausted all possibilities of research by any means, but most overseas genealogical research requires dropping a good hunk of hard earned $$$, which, I think, is quite a shame.
The closest I've found, so far, that could be a match for my William is a list of farmers who had produced flax from 1796, as follows:

If there is anyone who has any information on any Conn families of County Down, Northern Ireland before 1800 that could possibly shed some light on my research, PLEASE contact me!
