Conradt origin of descendents---Germany???
Hi. My name is Sue. My great-grandfather was named Friedrich Kamradt.
In Germany, a kin spelled his name Kamradt. He is extremely old and one of the last of the family from what I understand. I wrote to him, but never received a reply. I found Friedrich on the Ellis Island Ship records and the surname was spelled Kamradt (came to America in his early 20s--year 1893).
I guess what I'd really like to know is could Conradt be a variant spelling of the Kamradt name?? I cannot find much information for the Kamradt name in Germany. According to records, he was born in Ost Prussen, Germany and that covers a big area.
My family pronounces the name "Kam-rod". But others have pronounced it "Kam-rad".
Thanks for any answer you can give me on these two names. Could there be a connection??Sue
